Cabinet Moves Forward on Labor Act Review, Trade Licensing Reforms, and Legal Modernization Efforts

On the labor front, Cabinet approved a proposal from the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government to continue its comprehensive review of Belize’s Labor Act. The proposal includes updating the composition of the Labor Review Committee and revising its terms of reference. Additionally, Cabinet gave the green light to amendments to the Trade Licensing Act, which will come into effect on October 1, 2025. These changes are expected to streamline trade licensing processes and create a more business-friendly environment in Belize.  Lastly, Cabinet approved the repeal and replacement of the Law Revision Act, Chapter 3 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2020. This update is designed to modernize the process of revising and consolidating Belize’s laws. The new framework will establish a Law Reform Commission to oversee the review and reform of the country’s legal system, ensuring that laws remain relevant and effective in addressing the needs of the nation.
