City Councillor Sparks Controversy: Deannie Requena’s Allegations Against PIV Gang

City Councillor Deannie Requena came under some scrutiny this week after she posted on social media with allegations against the PIV gang. Her post went up following the killing of Orel Leslie in Belize City. For many, her post was not aligned with the level of decorum that an elected person is expected to display. Her boss, Mayor Bernard Wagner, was asked to weigh in on the post.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “Well for that comment you will have to certainly ask the councilor about the question that you are posing to me. You will have to ask her. She’s a councilor and she speaks for herself. I speak on behalf of the council and so that question I will have no comment on that. You will have to ask the good councilor on that issue.”
Reporter: But as the mayor is that something you guys sanction ? Engaging criminal elements on social media?
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “No, we don’t.”
Deannie Requena will not be seeking re-election in 2024.
