Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has recently faced scrutiny for attending the People’s United Party’s National Convention dressed in casual clothing, notably a blue shirt. During an interview, the COMPOL clarified that his presence was solely for security purposes, emphasizing the need to monitor the large crowd on the ground. He further asserted that, given his position, it was within his rights to be present at the event.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I don’t need to be in uniform to perform my duties. As you would know the Police Act clearly states that the police are on duty 24 hours a day seven days a week. If something were to happen in my view whether I’m in plain clothes or uniform I must act. I have a legal duty to do so. We have a right to wear what we want you know ? I must now be guided by what the media wants or me to wear ? I am free to wear what I want and what I was wearing that day was a I think it’s a mint green, a light green shirt. I don’t know if ____ colorblind but I have all right to be there.”
The Rally took place on February 16.
