Three and a half days after colliding into a cow, 26-year-old Lokenver Montero has died. The Dangriga resident succumbed this morning after sustaining injuries in a road traffic incident on Friday night. The incident was a chain collision that played out just before eleven o’clock in the night near mile four on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway. A Police report indicates that the first accident victim was 19-year-old Kelvin Castellanos who was in a pickup truck heading to Dangriga Town when he crashed into a cow in the middle of the road. The animal was flung onto the opposite side of the road where it collided with a pickup truck driven by 29-year-old Gabriela Cocom. Five minutes later, the dead animal was then hit by 26-year-old Lokenver Montero, who was on a motorcycle. Montero lost control of the motorbike and fell to the pavement, receiving head and body injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he spent the weekend fighting for his life but passed away earlier today. The fatality has underscored a reiteration of an issue affecting residents in the south where livestock animals are not secured and left wandering onto the highway. These reports were confirmed by the Chairman of Sarawee Village, Alston McLaughlyn.
Montero was pronounced dead this morning at 6:45 at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
