Eliza Arnold Recognized for Contributions to Sports Sector
Earlier in this newscast, we told you of the 25 awardees who were recognized last night at the Tribute to Belizean Patriots. Among those awarded was Eliza Arnold who gave greatly to the sports sector, particularly, through volleyball. To this date, Arnold has nine children and grandchildren who currently play the sport. She was given a meritorious award.
Eliza Arnold, Meritorious Service Award Recipient for Contribution to Sports: “I have a son and grandson that then play volleyball. Ricarte is the first one. Oscar, Arvid, Ryan, Aliyah, Raul, Amir, and Damian that’s how much I have in volleyball team. They come and ask me that they want to join the volleyball team. I tell them, okay join it but just be careful and go to volleyball because I like volleyball. Every night I go and somebody has to take me because I use my walking stick.”
Allan Sharp was also recognized for his contribution to sports. Sharp currently serves as the President of the Belize Volleyball Association.
Allan Sharp, President, Belize Volleyball Association: “It’s always great to be recognized for hard work. It’s always great to have sport be recognized and so I’m super proud and I hope this serves as motivation as well for many other people who are working hard in sport. A lot of people who have helped me along the way as well I hope it continues to motivate them and motivate a lot of young people right now who are trying to put a lot into sport.”
