European Union to Grant Schengen Visa Waiver for Belize in the Future, says Foreign Affairs Minister

The European Union will grant a Schengen visa waiver for Belize, but it is a matter of time, says Minister of Foreign Affairs Eamon Courtenay. Friday, Courtenay was asked for an update on the venture after the European Union Press office stated they were NOT considering waiving Visa requirements for Belizeans entering Europe. Here’s how he responded.

Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs: “There will be a Schengen waiver. The question is when. You are correct that at this moment it is not before the council but the commission is looking at it. We are doing the background work that needs to be done for it to be presented. But we will have a Schengen waiver the only question is when.”

The Schengen visa is for a zone of 27 European countries which includes most of the European countries with the exception of Ireland.  The non-EU countries that also require a Schengen visa are Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein.
