Father of Four Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway

A father of four lost his life in a road traffic incident on Saturday night as he headed home on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway. Around 9 o’clock, 32-year-old Tomas Cal was traveling on a motorcycle when he collided head-on into a pickup truck near Trio Village, Toledo District. The impact flung Cal to the pavement, where he sustained severe injuries to his feet and body. The Bladen villager was then taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Cal worked as a carpenter in Placencia Village and would travel to his home on the weekends to his two children and family.  According to the children’s principal at Fabian Cayetano RC Primary School, Hilaria Zuniga, Cal was a dedicated father and a down-to-earth person.

Hilara Zuniga, Principal Fabian Cayetano RC: “Cal was a very supportive parent for our school. Whenever he’d have the day off….he works in Placencia Maya Beach there about and when he comes home after ten days he will ask me as the principal if we have anything he can do for the school and if we have on his day off he’s usually going to the school and do whatever he needs to do for free. He also has three children at our school. He treats his stepson as his very own and his daughter Aliyah. Last week he went to give out exercise books for infant one students at the school since his daughter was in that class. He also assisting in fundraising for our school, he’s always there for us. He was one of the ones that’d say the minister is back so we can get a better school for our children here in the community. And the building is already up and he will not be here to see the accomplishment that we have done for the school. I guess he was going home after that ten days because that was last week so he’d be coming home and his kids were waiting for him.”

Cal would have celebrated his 33^rd birthday on the 18^th of this month. Police have not charged anyone in connection with the incident.
