Belizeans are dealing with yet another increase in the cost of fuel. Effective midnight last night, the cost of diesel went up by a dollar and twelve cents, bringing the new price per gallon up to twelve dollars and ninety-one cents in Belize City. This is the second price change applied this week. The first was on Monday night, when Premium fuel went up by seventy-three cents, bringing the new cost per gallon up to fourteen dollars and fifty-nine cents. Regular fuel remains at thirteen dollars and five cents per gallon, but we are told that this had increased by twenty five cents last week. Today our news team took to the streets of Belize City to find out how the high cost of fuel has been affecting taxi drivers’ ability to earn a living.
While the government of Belize no longer announces adjustments to fuel prices, sources tell Love News that there have been as many as thirty-nine price adjustments this year. It has been almost two years since the government has reported a price adjustment for fuel.
