As the opposition remains splintered, a few days ago the Briceno Administration presented a supplementary budget in the House of Representatives that will see the approval for the use of more than one hundred million dollars. On Friday, the second reading of the General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation Bill was read for just over one hundred and six point three million dollars. In the breakdown, the recurrent budget called for 10 point eight million dollars; the capital two budget for 52 point one million dollars, and the capital three budget for 44 point three million dollars. According to PM Briceno, the need for this extra money comes from unforeseen developments in the education, health, and social assistance sectors, as well as the renovation of the National Assembly Building and the construction of additional starter homes through the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development.
Additional works include the rehabilitation of the Maskall Bridge and the replacement of the Chicago and Lucky Strike bridges. There will also be the upgrading of the Philip Goldson Highway from mile two to the Flag Roundabout as well as street works in Port Loyola and on Caye Caulker. In response to the Prime Minister’s presentation, the Leader of the Opposition, Moses Shyne Barrow queried some aspects of the supplementary including the two million dollars for the purchasing of government vehicles.
The meeting was held at the George Price Center in Belmopan.
