Government Explores Campaign Financing Regulations Amidst Anti-Corruption Efforts
The Government is currently engaged in research surrounding campaign financing. Love News understands that through the Good Governance Unit, several policy papers will soon be completed with regional references and comparisons. Incidentally, according to the Minister of Political and Constitutional Reform, an anti-corruption declaration will be released this week that will also look at campaign financing.
Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform: “The Good Governance Unit has been working to prepare some policy papers on campaign financing, doing comparisons of what the laws are in other areas in the Caribbean, around the world, also reviewing the paper that was sent by the Belize Chamber of Commerce. So hopefully we can get that policy into a cabinet paper and we see some progress on that. On Wednesday, next week, there is an anti-corruption declaration being released and that is one points that they want to achieve in this declaration.”
Love News will bring you highlights of the anti-corruption declaration later this week.
