The Government of Belize has officially opened the bidding process for the infrastructure remodeling of Stella Maris School and the Belize Academy for the Deaf. The project involves a $800,000 investment aimed at rehabilitating and refurbishing the school grounds. Today, during an interview with the Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, he updated us on the timeline for the project. Fonseca explained that the bidding process is expected to take approximately two months, followed by several additional months of preparation before construction begins.
The upgrades will place a strong emphasis on enhancing security measures, a critical priority following the tragic incident involving Gabriel Orellano, who wandered out of the school premises unnoticed. Alongside these infrastructural improvements, it has been confirmed that the current principal, Francella Cantun, will be retiring in April. As a result, the process of scouting for her successor is expected to begin shortly to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.
The minister explained that Cantun may be leaving sooner as she has some holiday saved.
