Gunman Targets Group in Belize City, Injuring One: Police Make Arrests

A Belize City man was shot while socializing on Saturday night in Majestic Alley, Belize City. Around 10 o’clock, 20-year-old Jahshiel Cervantes was standing with a group of men in front of a wooden structure when they came under fire. The men were targeted by a gunman inside an SUV, who let off as many as six shots. Cervantes was injured and taken to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says that police have since located the vehicle used in the shooting and detained several men. 

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding, Eastern Division: “Police responded where they found Jaheel Cervantes with a gunshot injury. He was taken to the KHMH where he is in a stable condition at this time. Information is that he was Majestic Alley when a vehicle drove by and an occupant from the vehicle fired shots towards his area and caused his injury. Three persons are in custody and the vehicle is impounded and we’re doing follow up investigations at this time. He is recovering at the KHMH. The suspects will be interviewed and further information will be obtained.”

Police used surveillance footage to locate the suspected shooters.
