The Briceño Administration embarked on this pilot housing project under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing to provide a suitable shelter for Belizeans who are facing economic challenges. The purpose of this project is targeted to promote community upliftment and is geared at those persons who need it most, such as first-time homeowners, and single mothers. But, recipients are expected to meet the government halfway. The homeowners are to make monthly payments as part of the agreement but, the Ministry’s Public Relations Manager, Marisa Alamilla, says some persons have been falling behind.
Marisa Alamilla, Public Relations Manager, MIDH: “We have a system right now that we are putting in place where we will be calling the recipients that have no been making their monthly payments for whatever reason because we’re not sure why they’re not doing it and we are going to be contacting them in January to try to see how we can help, assist, guide them or to see what’s going on you know because I mean life is real and we have to recognize that the people that we service are the most needy in our country, the people that need it the most. There is not a single recipient that does not need what we are delivering.”
