Hugo Patt Denies Ties to Alliance for Democracy

Hugo Patt has drawn the line between the United Democratic Party and the Alliance for Democracy.  In a statement sent to our newsroom this afternoon, Patt confirmed that he is not and has not been associated with the alliance group.  The declaration has led to even more questions as the alliance had listed Patt as one of their executive members, giving the impression that he was on their side.  Whether it was a ploy to draw UDPs to Sunday’s convention would be challenging to prove, but either way, Patt has made it clear where his allegiance lies.  UDP’s Moses Shyne Barrow spoke on his relationship with the Corozal North Area Representative and indicated that they have developed a camaraderie over the past decade.

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “Hugo and I are colleagues, are brothers and friends and we’ve developed this relationship over you know the last eleven years. Ever since Hugo was a minister I remember when he was Minister of Local Government from that time so it’s been quite some time and obviously we’ve grown closer and so we stay in touch and it’s like when one of these fake news online outlets, won’t even call their name to be able to give any credibility but which has now become the media organ for the Alliance for Democracy Party, the night before their event they put that Hugo Patt was on their lineup and people were calling. People genuinely felt “bwai Hugo jump ship.” and Hugo is with these people and you know some of us thought maybe he should have said something, it doesn’t matter what they do. But they continue with the lies.”

In the statement’s conclusion, Patt stated, quote, “I continue to serve as the duly elected 1st Deputy Party Leader and a member of the National Executive and leadership team, alongside Party Leader Hon. Shyne Barrow, Chairman Michael Peyrefitte and Deputy Chairman Alberto August elected at a National Party Convention held on August 13, 2023. As a dedicated and loyal member of the United Democratic Party, I will continue to work and advocate for our party and the people of Corozal North.”  End of quote.
