Police have ramped up their presence in the George Street area to prevent further bloodshed after a mother of two was killed on Monday morning. Police say the shooting that led to the murder of 23-year-old Jasmine Domingo, and her 4-year-old daughter’s hospitalization, was the result of an internal feud among the gang in that area. Domingo’s brother, who are known gang members, were believed to be the intended targets and police fear retaliation. Today, the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, explained what the department is doing to crack down on gang violence in the area.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Certainly that’s an act of coward on the part of the person who did it. It’s rather unfortunate that the young lady who died as a result of that cowardly act, and the child that was injured but the police are doing what we can to establish who is responsible. We have a basic idea, but we do need evidence to be able to prosecute whoever the person or persons may be. I can tell you that since that incident we have stepped up our presence in the George Street area because somehow we believe that it is an internal rift between the George Street faction and we’re doing what we can to ensure that there is no retaliation. It is going to be hard, yes, but we will certainly do our best and we assure the public that whatever we do will be for the best interest of those persons who reside within the George Street area. Of course we are expecting retaliation, that’s why I’m saying that we are putting measures in place. I was on the grounds on Monday, I went back again yesterday and I’m here again today I’ll be going back out there again just to get the public the assurance that we’re doing our utmost best to avert any possible retaliation.”
