Jamie-Lee Usher Denies Interest in Belize City Administrator Seat Amid Erroneous Reports

An article published on Hot off the Press earlier today has named Jamie-Lee Usher as one of the persons aspiring for the seat of City Administrator at the Belize City Council.  It is a report that has proven erroneous as Usher has confirmed with our newsroom that she has no interest in the position, nor did she apply to be considered.  Usher stated, quote, “I did nothing of the kind. The alleged accusations made against me are grossly incorrect. I am asking that the accusations, innuendos, and rumors be cleared up and removed. It is my fervent hope to remain involved with education, technology, and robotics, working with our young people, for the advancement of Belizean society.”  End of quote.  Earlier this week, we told you of the interviews held by a committee at City Hall and that only three persons were interviewed, namely, Albert Vaughan, Linsford Castillo, and Stacey Swift.  Love News understands that the interviewing committee includes Mayor Bernard Wagner, Senior Administrative personnel from the council’s Human Resources Department, and Finance.  The interviews have been held and the recommendations are scheduled to be presented in the next Caucus meeting where the city councillors will have a chance to register their views on the matter. Yesterday, Pickstock Area Representative Anthony Mahler weighed in on the situation and denied that he and Fonseca were at odds over the candidates.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations: “I would just hope that the City Council selects the most qualified person, that is the most important management position in the council. That position drives everything for the council. That person should have the highest level of integrity. Capacity is very important and I will stress capacity is very important. So we will see where it goes from there. I just want them to make the right decision. Actually I was at a pleasant presentation yesterday in Belmopan if you could go on his Facebook you could see it we had lunch together, we had some good discussions with ambassadors from all across the world and they play an important role in getting the name Belize out there as well. So it’s a continued partnership and that’s that.”

We’ll keep following this story.
