Kenrick Longsworth, the son of the late Lavern ‘Anti-Christ’ Longsworth, was found guilty of manslaughter this morning before Justice Derick Sylvester. Longsworth was on trial for the killing of his stepson, 3-year-old, Mark Teul and the attempted murder of the two other siblings, Markeem and Zemark Teul. The trial concluded and the verdict was handed down today which found Longsworth guilty of manslaughter and not murder as the judge was not convinced by the prosecution that there was intent to kill the child. In the matter of the other two children, the judge found the stepdad guilty of wounding Zemark but not guilty in the case of Markeem. In this case, the judge noted that while the children did have multiple bodily injuries, the testimony from a doctor indicated that several of them were old injuries and were not recently inflicted. In his defence during the trial, Longsworth told the court that he had disciplined them but that it was the mother, Zema Requena, who had beaten the three boys when he told her that he was leaving her. The judge did not buy into that narrative, and was able to verify that the children were left in his care when they had to be taken to the emergency room for injuries. Love News understands that prior to her death, the mother of the accused had testified that she had seen his son beating the children. The judge also noted in his delivery that based on the testimonies of the medical personnel, it is evident that the children had been going through abuses for a long time. He remarked that it is a sad situation that they were not taken out of that environment. For context, on January 10, 2020 Police had responded to the crime scene on Lovely Lane in Belize City, they found the 3-year-old motionless on a mattress while the other two, ages two and four were in the bedroom with bruises and signs of sexual trauma. The mother, Zema Requena, testified that she had gone to a house down the street and when she returned she found Longsworth sitting on a bucket outside the house, seemingly upset. When she queried what was wrong, he told him to take the children with her next time she goes out. He then demanded that she get him a cigarette. Afterwards she realized that the 3-year-old was unresponsive and took him to the hospital, leaving the other two behind. Medical examination conducted on the children found that the 3-year-old sustained multiple bruises to the body, a swollen head, abrasions to the face, arms, chest, feet and mouth and a broken left foot. The medical examination also found that the toddler had a torn anus. His post mortem showed that he died due to asphyxia, blunt force trauma to the head and abdominal compression. The other two boys were badly beaten and had endured sexual abuse as well. They were hospitalized for several days and released.
