Leo Bradley Library Hosts 23rd Annual Book Fair

A library is usually a quiet space, but today the Leo Bradley Library in Belize City came alive with the bustling and laughter of school children, for its 23rd annual book fair. Hundreds of students from 30 schools visited the library on Princess Margaret Drive throughout the day, playing educational games and participating in competitions focused on reading and writing. Lavern Maskall, Library Assistant at the Leo Bradley Library, explained that the aim of the book fair was to show students that reading can be fun and get them excited to pick up a book.

Maskall says that the event also promotes using the library, despite the increased access to information via the internet. She notes that there’s still some information you can’t find on a search engine.

The Leo Bradley Library was inaugurated in 1994 and named after Belize’s first qualified librarian. It is the headquarters of the National Library Service and Information System.
