Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing, Julius Espat, says it was no easy feat, but there will be an increment of five million dollars to his budget. Minister Espat says that his ministry is targeting to achieve more for the people of Belize this year, and are willing to work within the financial allowances.
Hon. Julius Espat, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing: “It’s been lots of lobbying. Remember we had a target that was far more than we have right now but we work within the budget that government allocated to us. The Ministry of Finance in their wisdom decides how to share the pie. We had to prove to them in the first two years that what we said we would do we would do and we were efficient in it, we have shown them that everything that we have proposed we have completed and so I think that gave Cabinet and the Prime Minister incentive and trust to be able to give us more financing to continue but as I said five or fifteen million compared to one point four billion dollars is not a lot if you look at percentage wise but for us it’s five million more than we had before and now it will be fifteen more than we had before so we will work with what we have.”
