Ministry of Economic Development Secures $3M Grant to Combat HIV, TB, and Malaria

The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) has secured over $3 million in funding from the Global Fund Cycle (GFC) 7 grant. This investment will see an injection in the health sector, targeting awareness on and lower rates in HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), and Malaria.  In early October 2024, the Ministry completed a rigorous capacity assessment and received authorization from the Global Fund to serve as the Principal Recipient of the Cycle 7 grant, covering the period from 2025 to 2027. With key project documents such as the Implementation Map, Detailed Budget, Performance Framework, and Monitoring and Evaluation Plan fully approved, MED is prepared to launch this vital initiative. MED will begin implementation in January 2025, with efforts focusing on capacity building, strategic monitoring, and team development to ensure long-term effectiveness.  Stakeholders include the Ministry of Health and Wellness, National AIDS Commission, National Health Insurance, Belize Family Life Association, GoJoven, and MED officers.
