The staff of MK Pharmacy in the Kings Park area of Belize City are mourning the loss of a friend and fellow coworker. Jose Trinidad Reyes, also known as “Trino” was in his room located at the rear of the building when his health suddenly began to fail him. Reyes, who worked as a caretaker at the pharmacy, was with a friend who tried to render aid, but collapsed before they could get him to a hospital. The owner of the pharmacy, who chose to speak off camera, explained how the situation unfolded.
Voice of Owner of MK Pharmacy: “This morning about 6 o’clock a friend of mine called me and then he told me a guy named Chino who stays in MK Pharmacy building like a caretaker and a friend of us. So he told me he passed away. So I came down quickly and then I saw his body the place he sleeps right there, the back of the building. And then I think they tell me he has a stroke. So a girl who came and had coffee with him all the time she came to have coffee with him this morning to see him and then he saw he can’t move his leg, it’s kind of numb. So she tried to help him out, but she can’t take him out. So she came out asking for help and then she got to her uncle for help and when he came, they both tried to take him out but he was like, he can’t move. His legs are numb and he was thirsty, wanted to drink water and he was drinking water all the time. And then suddenly he just passed away. He just collapsed.”
Reyes was described by his coworkers as a compassionate man, who would go out of his way to assist others in need. A post mortem examination to determine his cause of death is pending.
