The Organization of American States (OAS) will donate firearm marking machine to Belizean Government. The OAS, through the Program of Assistance for Control of Arms and Munition (PACAM), with funding from the European Union will be handing over the equipment to the highest-ranking Police Officer, Chester Williams, and other Police Authorities tomorrow at 10:00 am. The donation ceremony will be held at the OAS Office in Belize City. The machines will be used by the Ministry of Home Affairs to improve controls against illicit trafficking of such weapons and to promote firearm traceability. Police officers will be provided with training on how to use the machines. Efforts will also be made by the OAS to support the Government in reviewing the Firearms Act Law, considering international standards. With funds from the European Union since 2020, the OAS PACAM has supported the Government of Belize in improving its capacities to manage the lifestyle of firearms and ammunition.
