Opposition Alleges PM Interference in Legal Case Amidst Residency Controversy
Tonight, the Opposition is alleging that Prime Minister John Briceno attempted to interfere in the ruling of the case brought against the Leader of the Opposition and is condemning the Minister of Public Service. In a release, the UPD took issue with PM Briceno’s comments to the media yesterday indicating that Barrow does not reside in his constituency. The UDP says QUOTE “He offered no evidence or facts to support his bald statement, because there is no evidence to contradict the Registering Officer who did her due diligence and found the Opposition Leader met the requirements under the law to transfer into the Mesopotamia Division.” UNQUOTE The Opposition claims the objection is nothing more than a political witch hunt and distraction tactic by the PUP using two former unsuccessful PUP candidates in Mesopotamia. The party says the PM’s comments were highly improper, outrageous, and possibly illegal as well as contempt of court, despite whether the Chief Magistrate ruling tomorrow. In ending, the UDP denounced the Minister of Public Service and Elections Henry Charles for what it says is his failure to defend the integrity of our public officers who have no partiality or vested interest in registering electorates.
