Oscar Arnold Assumes Role as Foreign Affairs CEO

After serving as Belize’s Ambassador to Mexico, Oscar Arnold has officially taken up his new responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.  Arnold assumed office on Monday, June first, transitioning from his diplomatic post in Mexico City to the ministry’s headquarters in Belmopan. The appointment places him at the administrative helm of one of government’s most important ministries, responsible for coordinating Belize’s foreign policy agenda, international cooperation efforts, and trade relations.  Speaking with Love News this week, Arnold reflected on his tenure as Ambassador to Mexico, describing it as a period of significant growth in bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries. He noted that during his time in office, the Belize Embassy in Mexico worked closely with Mexican authorities on matters ranging from trade and security cooperation to education, culture, migration, and development assistance.

CEO Oscar Arnold, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade:  “April 2026 the 8th of April gave my five year anniversary there in Mexico City. I arrived in 2021 April 8th at the start of the third wave, at that time of the COVID pandemic. But if you’d ask me I would say that we had a very successful run, a very successful stint in Mexico. We were able to depend and broaden the relationship that we had with that friendly nation who to this day we still enjoy very friendly bilateral relationship with them. We have quite a few ambassadors who are accredited to Belize but are resident in Mexico. One of the newer bilateral relationships that we have is with Saudi Arabia and that relationship took seed and took form there in Mexico City so I am happy and I am proud to say that that relationship started out of a courtesy call visit by the Saudi Ambassador when he was placed in Mexico City so I am proud of that one and we had also other relationships with other organizations and different ministries within the government of Mexico.”

Arnold said his experience in Mexico has provided valuable insight that he intends to bring into his new role as CEO, where he will now help coordinate Belize’s broader foreign affairs agenda and oversee the ministry’s day-to-day operations.
