As Panton’s sole appearance in court on Friday has reflected a weakness of sorts, her efforts to maintain her self-declaration as the UDP Leader continue unabated. Just this past weekend, she was on a tour in the Cayo District garnering support, and earlier today she managed to obtain signatures from the Orange Walk South division. According to Panton, the signatures of these thirteen people have signed a declaration supporting her as the leader. It is a curious situation that questions whether Panton is working her way towards contempt of court. In the court’s perfected order on Friday, it did indicate, quote, “Any other person who knows of this order and does anything which helps or permits the respondents to breach the terms of this order may also be held in contempt of court and may be imprisoned, fined or have their assets seised.” End of quote. Since the court order, Panton has sent out two press releases using the UDP letterhead which only the Secretariat would have the authority to use.
