Also coming out of the Senate was the issue of stipends for the Parliamentarians. Lead Senator for the United Democratic Party, Michael Peyrefitte, brought it up with some hint of humor, explaining that on a good month he is paid a mere one thousand dollars as a Senator. In his presentation, Peyrefitte mentioned the amount of effort and time it takes to prepare for Senate meetings. Here is how his presentation went.

Michael Peyrefitte, Opposition Senator: “What the public needs to understand and appreciate, Madam President, except for the Vice President who gets a fat salary every month. But us, other human regular senators, I don’t know about you but on a good month I get $1,002 as my pay to be in this Senate. Now, it’s a service and a labor of love. But to do this work, I think it needs to be recognized as well in your compensation and your emoluments. I know the Vice President gets an additional stipend but it’s not anything to do if you want people, it’s human nature, if you want people to perform at a very high level, I will continue to push and support any government motion I was hoping to see one here today to increase the salaries and emoluments of parliamentarians, especially in the upper house.”
