This week there has been a new angle of contention in the Corozal Bay division with the PUP players, Thea Garcia Ramirez and Elvia Vega Samos. Vega-Samos took to social media to complain that she is being evicted from the constituency office. It has been a bumpy situation since Vega-Samos lost the standard bearer convention last month. Additionally, questions have been posed as to how Vega-Samos has been spending the monthly allowance since she has had no need to pay rent for her constituency office. Prime Minister Briceno was asked to weigh in on the situation, he did so, albeit with some reluctance.

John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “But the truth of the matter is that in some instance you manage to have available and office that is given to you. In this instance it’s in the PUP so what then basically happens is that they use that money to be able to assist within the constituency. The monies that you have to assist the constituency is about two thousand plus from that fund, in the scheme of things it’s not….”
Reporter: Can’t even pay for a funeral.
John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “In Orange Walk Central we don’t pay those kinds of money I could assure you but seriously it’s that I believe that Honorable Elvi Vega would then free that money that has been freed up then that she can be able to use to continue to help the people in Corozal Bay.”
According to Thea Garcia Ramirez, she has extended an olive branch to Vega-Samos and has asked that they work together in ensuring a victory in the general elections. We understand that Vega-Samos is yet to respond to the email from Garcia-Ramirez.
