Since police launched their operations, several accused murderers have been detained and charged. Yesterday, 24-year-old Marquis Conorquie, a resident of the St. Martins area, was charged with Sunday’s murder of Stanley Moore. He was slapped with charges of murder, attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm. Today, cops also charged another man for the fatal shooting of Elwin Lewis in March. He is 21-year-old Robert Arnold. According to the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, these arrests are a part of the police’s efforts under the SOE.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “We have been able to detain a number of persons who were wanted for murders. As you’ll see on our media blog, we had shared with you yesterday the arrest of two individuals. One was arrested for the murder of Elwin Lewis, which took place a couple months ago. That person had been on the run for a number of months from us and we were able to locate him yesterday. And we also charged, I think, Marquis Connorque for the murder of the guy Moore who was killed on Sunday during the day. So those two individuals were captured as part of this operation and we have also detained a number of other persons who the GI3 will be looking at for a gang investigation and a number of persons who are wanted by CIB for different investigations as well. Yes, the police have recovered a number of firearms and ammunition within the Belize district and the Cayo area. I must say that since we started operations in the San Ignacio/ Santa Elena area, the team there have seized at least about four firearms and a number of ammunition. So it goes to show the work that the police has been doing in those areas to be able to crack down on the issue of crime.”
Several men have also been charged with being members of a gang in addition to being sent to prison under the SOE. We’ll have more details on these charges later in our court news segment.
