Police Commissioner Chester Williams Takes on Interim Second Vice President Role in Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police

Police Commissioner Chester Williams has been appointed as the interim Second Vice President of the Association of the Caribbean Commissioners of Police.  The announcement was made during an intercessional meeting currently happening in the United States.  Love News spoke with the commissioner yesterday to get a report on the purpose of the event.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Here we’re discussing different crime-fighting strategies for the Caribbean region that we can apply in our respective countries and we will also be discussing the upcoming ACCP AGM, which will be held in Belize in May of next year. So for the first time next year we will be hosting the ACCP AGM. And so we will be doing a presentation on Belize to give the commissioners of the Caribbean an appreciation in terms of the layout of Belize and to give them the assurance that whenever they are in Belize that they’re going to be safe.”

Reporter: A few weeks ago you spearheaded a conference here in Belize for the first time ever that brought together senior cops from the region. What was their feedback?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The feedback from them was that Belize was very much an exciting place. Some of them said they wish they didn’t had to go back so quickly but they had to return to respective countries. I think that the hospitality that we offered, the friendliness of the Belizean people and the cuisine they were very excited about the cuisine and we also took the opportunity to take them on tours to see different tourist destinations and I must say that they felt extremely happy and satisfied with the hospitality we offered them in Belize.”

In recent months, the Police Commissioner has traveled to several regional and international law-enforcement meetings abroad.  We asked him to talk to us on the benefits gained from these meetings.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The most important thing is to look at best practices and networking with the different law enforcement agencies across the world and certainly over the past few months we have been in dialogue and communication with different law enforcement agencies as well as our respective regions all in an effort to make sure that we continue to reduce crime in our respective countries. It is extremely beneficial to us. There are things that are being done in different police organizations across the world and we as I said before we look at best practices and normally when I return home from these conferences I would meet with my senior command and discuss the strategies that were discussed during the time I was away on these conferences and see what we can apply to make our department more efficient.”

Police Commissioner returns home on Sunday.
