Police Commissioner Chester Williams has been toying with the idea to pursue his political aspirations in next year’s general elections. In jest, he has alluded to a possible entry into the Mesopotamia Division, but he has yet to make an official announcement. Should he decide to run under the PUP umbrella, he would have until May 20 to submit his application. For now, Prime Minister Briceno has embraced the idea, despite many criticisms thrown out this week on the commissioner’s so-called political campaign.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “I don’t know how you’re making a bid deal about it. He has not spoken with me about that but like any Belizean, like yourselves if you want to put your name you can. Jules Vasquez that has all the answers to all the problems he should put his name on the ballot. You know I mean everybody should have the right to put their name as long as they believe they will go in to be productive legislatures, productive politicians that want to be able to address the problems that we are facing in this country. I think that he has a lot of competency. He has shown that he is about public service. He has been a police officer for several decades and highly qualified and I think that he is liked and respected by most everyone except the Leader of the Opposition and I wonder why.”
Love News understands that up to news time this afternoon, Commissioner Williams had still not decided whether he will enter the political arena. He did say, however, that he may be more inclined to continue serving the country in his current capacity.
