The Belize Police Department launched the third cohort of its “Train the Trainer” Defensive Tactics course yesterday. Thirty-two police officers from various ranks and regions, including Punta Gorda, Placencia, Seine Bight, Independence, Hopkins, Dangriga, and Eastern Division, as well as the National Police Training Academy, joined the intensive four-week training program. The training covers essential skills such as stances, ground movements, and control holds designed to safely subdue and manage individuals. Officers will also learn pat-down procedures and quick handcuffing techniques. This program ensures that police personnel are better equipped to handle confrontational situations while prioritizing both officer and civilian safety. This training aligns with the department’s broader efforts to improve officer readiness and maintain the highest standards of public service considering recent incidents involving officers and the public.
