PUP Extends Olive Branch in Corozal Bay Amid Internal Tensions

And while the apparent infighting in the UDP is increasing, the PUP is hoping to mend fences in Corozal Bay. Last week, Area Representative Elvi Vega Samos claimed she was undermined by the PUP in the convention she lost to Thea Garcia-Ramirez. Vega-Samos claimed there was fraud in the convention and alleged she was not backed by the party. As the situation has died down, Ramirez says she has extended the olive branch to Vega in hopes of working together towards a cooperative approach in addressing the challenges facing Corozal Bay.

Thea Garcia Ramirez, PUP Standard Bearer, Corozal Bay: “ I’ve reached out to Miss Vega. I’ve asked her to be part of my executive, the new executive. I’ve reached out to her. I haven’t had any response back but the court is, the ball is in her court and she gets to decide how she wants to move forward. I have extended an olive branch. Conventions get a bit heated. I understand that. I have also been on the losing side of a convention. Every person handles it differently and we have to be gracious in defeat, and we have to be humble in victory.”

The PUP had issued a statement calling Vega-Samos’ claims baseless.
