Retired Public Officers Protest for Dissolution of Trust Fund, Accuse Government of Delaying Compensation

The Association of Beneficiaries and Retired Public Officers (ABRPO) is once again in the news after it staged a protest in front of the Eleanor Hall building on Chetumal Boulevard.  The group is demanding that the government honor its promise to dissolve the Public Service Workers’ Trust Fund (PSWT). The association claims that despite protesting before and receiving assurances from the Prime Minister, there has been little to no progress in addressing the monies owed to them. The beneficiaries, whose salaries and increments were frozen between 1995 and 1997, believe the government is deliberately delaying action on the matter. For years, they have been demanding compensation in cash for the funds owed to them, yet their calls have gone largely unanswered. Love News spoke with some members this morning who fee; that the government is dragging its feet intentionally with the hope that they all die out.

The group says that they plan to protest for as long as it takes to get their money.
