Suspect Arrested in Connection with July Murder in Belize City

Police have caught the man they believe murdered 38-year-old James Dorian Escarpeta on July 16.  He is 32-year-old Jason Mckenzie, a resident of the Belama Belize City. Mckenzie stands accused of fatally shooting Escarpeta while he was walking near the corner of Water Lane and West Street. Yesterday, police arrested and charged McKenzie with one count of murder. Escarpeta’s murder was one of three incidents that led to the implementation of a State of Emergency, which ended last month. The killings, according to police, were the result of a feud between three Belize City gangs.
