Investigators have identified a suspect in the attempted murder of a Belize City woman on Tuesday night. Around 8:30, 48-year-old Mary Flowers was leaving the home of her father’s child on Santa Barbara Street when gunshots rang out. The Faber’s Road resident then realized she was shot in the neck and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams provided on the police’s investigation into the mater today.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The police is looking at that matter still. We know that she was not able to speak due to the nature of the injuries she received on her neck. I am hoping that by now she should be able to provide some insight to the police in terms of what transpired. I know police had or have one suspect in custody. We are hoping that we’ll be able to gather as much to be able to charge that person.”

Reporter: Any information if she was the intended target or any motive ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “By all indications yes and it may have been as a result of some posts that she had placed on social media.”
