University of Belize Hosts Public Lecture on Rights and Reform

The University of Belize held a public lecture today as part of the events for the ongoing September celebrations. The Belize at 42 lecture was titled ‘People Power Rights & Reform: Recipe for the New Republic’ and was held at UB’s conference center in Belmopan. In his remarks, President of UB, Dr. Vincent Palacio, explained that the public lectures form a part of UB’s social responsibility as a university to foster national development by creating a platform to hold discussions on topics that may be controversial.

Myrtle Palacio, who gave a presentation titled, ‘How we are governed: Democracy, Governance, Election’ started the discussions. She was followed by panelist Jayden Coleman, who presented a student-centered perspective of governance. The final panelist was Dr. Maxine McKay who presented on Inclusivity in Belize’s government structure. 

Attendees were able to follow up each presentation with questions to the panelists. This was the third year UB held a lecture as part of the national celebrations.
