Waste Pileup at Belmopan Facility Sparks Concern Over Garbage Management

The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management is raising concerns over the growing volume of garbage being generated across the country, which is putting pressure on several waste transfer stations. One notable example is the Belmopan transfer facility, where waste buildup has become increasingly visible, drawing complaints from nearby residents and raising concerns about the site’s capacity to manage the volume of refuse. The accumulation of garbage has led some to question whether the facility is fully operational or struggling to process the influx. Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management, Orlando Habet, acknowledged the issue and confirmed that the government is actively working to address the challenges.

Habet added that he hopes to work with the contractors to address the issue.
