Wellness Week Focuses on Combating Non-Communicable Diseases Across Belize

Wellness Week is being observed by government officials through outreach campaigns across the country with a focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs).  One activity for this week includes a Wellness Forum which has already taken place in the Cayo and Belize Districts.  The team from the Ministry of Health and Wellness was in Dangriga today where they conducted exercises aimed at bringing awareness to the NCDs that have high prevalence in Belize.  According to Kathleen Azueta-Cho, these diseases include diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

Azueta-Cho indicated that outside of this week’s activities, the ministry personnel are opting to go to various workplaces to carry out presentations and basic tests.

Today’s event at the Pelican Beach Resort saw the participation of Miss Universe Belize and Halima Hoy of UNICEF as well as PAHO’s Representative.  Wellness Week is observed with the theme, ‘Together for the Well Being of Everyone’.
