A Lord’s Bank woman has been charged with harbouring a wanted man who happens to be her son. Fifty-seven-year-old Desiree Elizabeth Miller appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday answering to a single charge of harboring a criminal. Initially, Miller pleaded guilty to the charge and said she knew it was an offense to harbour her son Phillip Guzman. She explained that the police came to her home twice to look for her son but that they came aggressively with guns. She said she feared for his life and intended to turn him into the police with the aid of an officer she knew and trusted. Upon her explanation, the magistrate rejected her guilty plea and entered an equivocal plea of not guilty on her behalf. Miller was given bail in the sum of eight hundred dollars plus one surety, which she met. Miller is due back in court on December 23. The allegation against her is that she had kept Guzman at her home, on October 27, knowing that he was wanted on a charge of aggravated burglary.
