Twenty-three-year-old Deandra Parham was spared jail time today after being handed a suspended sentence on a charge of common assault. Parham appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for punching a thirteen-year-old girl in the stomach. She pleaded guilty to the charge and the Magistrate decided to go with a non-custodial sentence to spare her the punishment of prison time. However, if Parham is convicted of any offense within the next year, she will serve a year sentence. The incident happened in Belize City on Saturday, July 27. The minor said that she was walking on Mahogany Street, when Parham approached her, grabbed her by the shirt, and punched her in the stomach for no reason.
