Woman Survives Shooting Incident, Faces Medical Costs for Bullet Fragments Removal

Over the weekend, a woman’s life went from a night in paradise to a living nightmare. On Saturday night, 26-year-old, Maia James was shot in the head while socializing with 32-year-old, Roy Burgess, in a vehicle on Placencia Road. Burgess was killed, and James was taken to the hospital. However, while she was able to survive, James is now in need of further medical attention. Her family launched a GOFUNDME campaign to raise fifteen thousand US dollars. The family states that, “while she survived a bullet passing through her skull and exiting her face at this very moment, she has bullet fragments still lodged near her spine and is in dire need of a surgical procedure to remove them…. Maia is a strong woman and is fighting to return to her family but she needs help with surgical costs.”  The mother of two is expected to undergo surgery and prepare to return to the USA, where she resides.
