21-year-old Student of Stann Creek remanded for charges of child pornography and sexual assault.

A 21-year-old student of Stann Creek Ecumenical Junior College was remanded to the Belize Central Prison today for charges of child pornography and sexual assault.  Shania Shahera Welch was wanted by Police for several months now, but finally surrendered today.  The charges of child pornography and sexual assault stem from a video that began circulating in June where she had a 10-year-old girl use a Dove deodorant spray bottle to pleasure her while recording it on video.  When the video became viral, the authorities launched an investigation and interviewed the minor in the presence of her mother.  In that interview, the child said that the Welch had her (the minor) touch her on her private part and perform sexual pleasures using the aerosol spray bottle.  The incident occurred sometime between December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2022.  It is important to note that the minor did not suffer any physical assault or injuries.  Welch appeared in court today where the prosecution objected to bail for fear that she may interfere with the child.  No plea was taken from Welch and she was remanded until November 29.
