Liquor License Applications Surge in Toledo District; Village Leaders Enforce Guidelines

As many 133 applications for liquor licenses were received by the Liquor Licensing Board in the Toledo District.  According to the Chairman of the Board, Jason Guy, the applications are particularly for the rural areas.  He did note, however, that the village leaders are now becoming more involved in enforcing the guidelines.  Earlier this week, the board met with the applicants where several concerns were highlighted.  Correspondent Celia Guy was present at the meeting, and spoke with Guy on the agenda, and discussions.

The meeting was held at the Toledo Sports Complex.  Also present was health inspector, Gloria Martinez who emphasized on the importance of businesses obtaining a valid food handlers certificate, have adequate bathrooms, and clean business environment.  Meanwhile, Superintendent of Toledo Police Formation, Brent Hamilton explained the role of the police and advised applicants.

Among the concerns expressed by the applicants were the negative impact that stores that sell alcohol have on small restaurants and bars, the continuous issues with public drinking and the drastic increase in late liquor license application fees.
