Protesters Rally Against Economic Hardships in Orange Walk

Over 300 people walked the streets of Orange Walk in protest of unbearable economic conditions on Saturday. The protest was led by a group of individuals who go by the name “Defenders.” Love News spoke to the president of the movement, Eliseo Guerra, who says he was amazed with the support.

Ellseo Guerra, President, Defender: “We launched the movement as you guys have seen on the media out there and I was really surprised and it was an impact for the whole entire country as well because I can see the people came out and some that didn’t come out because they were afraid to be victimized. The protest is about the issues that are going on within the country and the people’s needs and the people are actually calling for this really but most of the people that are going through these things here are afraid to step up and they don’t have the voice to say it and they don’t have the resources to come out here and speak for themselves. So it’s a very hard task to do really but I’m going to pull this through as far as we can go and this is my objective to get the awareness of the government to know that the people are tired and they’ve had enough of all this concerns that are going on within this country. School teachers, retirement people, compensations and public servants they work a lot of hours and they don’t pay overtime. I’ve been talking to a lot of police officers and so on and they say they’ve been working quite some time a lot of hours for the same pay and I don’t think that’s fair. Also the fuel is so outrageous and I think we have the highest fuel in Central America really. I was impacted because to be honest I didn’t bring out anyone by me giving any contribution financially for anyone to come out. You know they come out on their own and I think they give me their support unconditionally because of the situation.”

Added that he is organizing another protest before Election Day on March 06.
