Shyne Barrow Criticizes Alliance for Democracy’s Tactics, Vows to Continue UDP Reform Efforts

Leader of the United Democratic Party, Moses Shyne Barrow, has used some special words to describing the efforts by the Alliance for Democracy to unseat him.  Among those words are, ‘deceptive, anti-democracy, fictitious and unscrupulous’.  Barrow sat down with Love News today where he spoke on Sunday’s event at the Civic and the impact.  In his interview, Barrow indicated that many of those who attended were misinformed and had attended without a clear understanding of what was going on.  Convention aside, however, one salient statement that Barrow made had to do with his efforts to reform the UDP, and the questionable characteristics of those aligned with the alliance.

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “While it had always been alleged that many of the characters were corrupt, obviously John Saldivar was designated as corrupt. We know about his involvement with convicted murderer Danny Mason and convicted fraudster Lev Derman and we knew about Castro and the allegations of corruption and Boots Martinez and allegations of corruption. Erwin Contreras allegations of corruption. All people that were there front and center to support her. We know about Patrick Faber’s behavior and questionable decision making. What we see now in Tracy Panton is someone who is willing to make a deal with the many devils and to do anything for power. But there’s nothing we can do but forge forward. I believe when you talk about what happened at Civic Center you have to talk about what didn’t happen. Mayor Trapp did not flinch. Bernadette Fernandez did not flinch, the Deputy Mayor of San Ignacio / Santa Elena our only two…well we have other elected officials but our only elected mayor. We have the eighteen standard bearers held fast with me from eighteen constituencies; Cayo North, Cayo North East, Cayo Central, Cayo West, Toledo East, Toledo West, Dangirga, Pickstock, Freetown, Caribbean Shores, Fort George, Corozal North, Corozal South East, Corozal South West, Orange Walk South, Orange Walk North, Belize Rural South. Let’s look at all of the people that with all of the money, I heard a half million dollars was spent just on the day. Colleagues said no we believe in Shyne Barrow. Hugo Patt put out a statement today because they keep lying and trying to deceive people and pretend as if he was a part of what they were doing when they knew all along he did not support them and does not support them and will never support them. What does that say ? That has to say that all they’ve done is been on a campaign of lies and this is what happens when you go against the old guard. You know you are too young men and for young men and young women this is how it will be. The elderly people, we respect them, we appreciate their wisdom and there are some elderly people that understand the role of transition and making way for the youth and the new generation but there are some that will fight you. There are some that unless you do it the way they tell you to do it they will say that it can’t be done and even if you’re showing them that it can be done they’ll find a way to stop it from being done because it wasn’t the way that they said for it to be done.”

And while it may seem that Barrow is facing quite the coalition of the popular senior UDPs, he indicated that he will not be discouraged or deterred.  As a matter of fact, Barrow went as far as sending a message to society saying the contrary to the narrative, this is not dictatorship, but rather, it is standing up to the corruption that needs weeding out.

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “My message to society is that this is what standing up looks like. This is what it looks like because yes they have their supporters no matter what they do as we see in the case of Patrick Faber, we see with John Saldivar, but they are not the majority. I believe the majority of people in this country want better politicians, they want new faces, they want to change the cycle for the last forty three years and they don’t think these old corrupt politicians will do it and there are many people that are disappointed in Tracy Panton because they thought that she would represent that change and surround herself with new faces and people of integrity but we see the same old guard propping her up.”
