Andreinae Samuels Charged Despite Assault, Shares Her Side of the Story

On Monday, we reported the story of Andreinae Samuels, a woman who was severely beaten in Belize City on Sunday. Today, despite her injuries, Samuels was charged in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for allegedly throwing a drink on her attacker earlier that night. She is facing a single count of common assault, to which she pleaded not guilty. Due to her injuries, Samuels spoke to our newsroom off-camera this afternoon to explain that the situation started with a woman with whom she says she had issues with for flirting with her boyfriend at a nightclub in Belize City last Sunday. She says she got mad with her boyfriend and threw a drink on him which got her kicked out of the club. Later that evening, Samuels says she had an altercation with the same woman and intended to throw water on her, but before she could do so, she says Rene Flowers, a man who was once her friend, stepped in to defend the woman and ended up assaulting her.

Andreinae Samuels, Charged with Common Assault: “I opened this water bottle and he said “You’re not going to do that.” before I even got to throw anything or anything of that sort he already hit me to the ground. Trampled me to the ground I would say I blacked out so I can’t tell you exactly how many hits but I know for sure the girl was right there I don’t know if I want to call her name but she was right there cheering him on “Yes beat her.” The reason why I went to social media is because I got reports that he was at work bragging about it and that really hurt me because for you to see what you did to a female, he was once I consider him my friend because we used to work together, he’d come to my house, eat and stuff like that we used to work together and yeah he did that and then yesterday I was at home and I got a call from the Corporal at the Police station and they said come down to the station, no reason why whatsoever. I sat there and they told me I am detained let me just pass over my stuff to whoever I came with. And I was like “but detained for what ?” and they said that I threw a drink on him in the club. So I asked if they retrieved the footage from the club they said they’re working on it. I was like okay because I know for a fact I did not throw a drink on this man. So moving forward now they locked me up in the cell and I just waited there until I could get bail the evening like after six. So today at nine I went to the court to face charges for common assault for throwing a drink. I pleaded not guilty and got bailed this morning.”

Samuels is being represented in the matter by attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley and is due back in court on July 12.
