Belize Celebrates International Day for Women in Maritime, Honoring Female Seafarers

Today, Belize’s female seafarers were awarded as the country joined the world in celebrating the International Day for Women in Maritime. The day, which was established last year, seeks to honor women in the industry and promote the recruitment, retention, and sustained employment of women in the sector. This year’s theme was “Mobilizing Networks for Gender” and focused on promoting gender equality. Acting Ports Commissioner of the Belize Port Authority, Darlin Gaitan, explained how women in the industry were celebrated today. 

Gaitan added that over the years there has been a gradual increase of women in the sector and explained how the awardees were selected.
