Belize City Teen Fined for Theft, Faces Additional Charges for Stolen Goods

A Belize City resident was fined in court today after being convicted of theft. Eighteen-year-old Tyrone Suaso appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court charged two counts of theft, one for a bicycle and the other for a plastic bucket containing a 17-foot cast fishing net. Suaso pleaded guilty to stealing the bicycle and was fined two hundred dollars plus five dollars cost of court. He has until April 24 to pay that fine or he faces two months in jail. Meanwhile, he pleaded not guilty with respect to the bucket and its contents. He was granted bail in the sum of six hundred dollars with respect to that charge. The case has been adjourned until May. According to the police report, the victim, Elvia Molina, reported the thefts on March 13. She said she saw Swaso taking the bike from her yard on February 26, and the bucket from her home on March 9.
