Belize High School Collaborates with U.S. Robotics Team to Promote STEM Education

Belize High School which already has an award-winning robotics program, has teamed up with partners from the United States to bring robotics to schools all over Belize. A five-member delegation from the Pennsylvania-based robotics team BrainSTEM, is in Belize this week conducting workshops for high school students. The BrainSTEM team, which is currently the state and world champion of the FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition, raised money to acquire twenty robotics kits to bring to Belize. Gustavo Carillo, head of the Information Technology Department at BHS, explained that the robotics kits will be distributed to high schools that wish to participate in the FIRST Lego League robotics challenge which will be held in Belize early next year. Carillo explained that participating in competitions like the Lego League increases students’ chances of getting careers in science and engineering fields.

BHS won gold medals in the 2022 FIRST Global Challenge Robotics competition that was held in Geneva Switzerland.
