Tonight, there is an abundance of carrots across the country which has led to a dip in prices. According to the Ministry, the dip is due to an oversupply and overlap harvest cycles in the Orange Walk, Cayo and Stann Creek Districts. This has led to a frustration among the carrot farmers who have been forced to put their marketing on hold. The media was able to meet with both government officials and the farmers in San Carlos and Indian Church, Orange Walk District. Acting Director of Ministry of Agricutlure, Food Security and Enterprise, Andrew Mejia has assured farmers that the Ministry is trying their best to address the situation.
Mejia assures the carrot farmers that the ministry has not issued any import permits since November 2023.
Another tour will be hosted by the Ministry in the Cayo District tomorrow.
